Official Meta Tech Provider
Your WhatsApp Business API account, opened on Meta's own platform.
A WhatsApp Business API account — which Meta calls a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) — represents your business on Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform, holding your registered numbers and your message templates. UDO, an Official Meta Tech Provider, opens it with you and runs it as infrastructure.
Official Meta Tech Provider · 600M+ messages delivered · Trusted by 1,000+ Businesses Worldwide
The account
What is a WhatsApp Business API account?
It is a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA): the account Meta uses to represent your business on the WhatsApp Business Platform. It holds your registered business phone numbers and your message templates, and it belongs to exactly one Meta business portfolio.
What you need to open one
Three things. We go through each of them with you on the first call.
- A Meta business portfolio: the one your WABA will belong to
- A business phone number: the number customers see your messages come from, registered on the platform
- Your business documents: for Meta's business verification

Meta's business verification is carried out on the business portfolio, and messaging limits are counted per portfolio too, shared by every business phone number in it. Connect the portfolio that belongs to your registered business, and your WABA, its numbers and its templates sit under it.
Billing
How is a WhatsApp Business API account billed?
UDO charges per delivered message, and the current rate card is on the pricing page. Template messages fall into three categories set by Meta: marketing, utility and authentication. From 1 October 2026 Meta also charges for free-form replies sent inside the 24-hour customer service window, once a business number has sent 1,000 in a month; ask us how they are billed on your account.
Marketing
Campaigns, offers, product launches, re-engagement and upsells, sent to people who opted in.
Utility
Order updates, shipping alerts, reminders, invoices and receipts tied to something the customer did.
Authentication
One-time passwords, verification codes, login alerts and two-factor checks.
Every rate is on the rate card, and WhatsApp API pricing explains which messages fall into which category. Sustained high volume is quoted separately.

Only what lands
Are you charged for messages that are not delivered?
No. A message is billed once it is delivered to the customer's phone; a message that fails for any reason, such as an invalid number, a number not on WhatsApp, a customer who has blocked you or a network failure, is not billed.
| Message status | What it means | Billed? |
|---|---|---|
| Delivered | Reached the customer's phone | Yes, once |
| Read | Delivered, then opened | No extra charge on top of delivery |
| Sent, not delivered | Accepted, but never reached the phone | No |
| Failed | Invalid number, not on WhatsApp, blocked, or a network error | No |
Every message reports its status back to you, per recipient, so you can check your bill against what actually reached people.

Getting started
How do you open a WhatsApp Business API account?
Five steps, in this order. Meta's business verification usually waits longest, because it depends on Meta reviewing your documents, so it starts first.
Book a call
Your use case, monthly volume and the number you want to use.
Meta verification
Meta checks your business documents. It is one way to lift the starting limit of 250 customers in any 24 hours for messages you start.
Number registration
We register your number on the WhatsApp Business Platform for you.
Template approval
The messages that open conversations go to Meta for review.
Start sending
From the dashboard, or from your own systems over the API.
The limit counts the unique customers you message outside an open customer service window in any 24 hours, and it is shared by every number in your business portfolio. Source: Meta's messaging limits documentation, checked on .
Questions
Frequently asked.
WABA stands for WhatsApp Business Account, Meta's name for the account that represents your business on the WhatsApp Business Platform. It holds your registered business phone numbers and your message templates, and it belongs to one Meta business portfolio.
Not to start. A new business portfolio can message up to 250 customers outside an open customer service window in any 24 hours, and Meta's business verification is one of three ways to raise that limit to 2,000, so we start it first.
Meta does not issue a single approved status. An account can start conversations once its business phone number is registered and its templates are approved, and business verification lifts the starting limit. The blue verified badge is separate and optional.
UDO is an Official Meta Tech Provider. You book a call, connect your Meta business portfolio, register a business phone number and submit your first templates for Meta's review, with business verification running alongside.
